Submitting a Manuscript (one‑chapter sample only). Agassiz Publishing (AP) focuses on books by Canadian authors—especially works rooted in British Columbia’s people, cultures, and landscapes. We welcome adult fiction and narrative nonfiction that reflect BC and Western Canada, and we encourage submissions from Indigenous and other under‑represented voices. We do not consider poetry, young adults, textbooks, self‑help/how‑to, or purely genre fiction that isn’t grounded in our region; submissions must be original (not previously published in book form, including self‑published). English only (Canadian usage).
What to send now. Please submit one chapter only (it does not have to be Chapter 1)—choose the chapter that best represents your voice and the book’s core appeal. Include a one‑page synopsis to provide context (spoilers welcome) and a short author bio. Do not send a full manuscript at this stage; if we’re interested, we will request it.
Formatting. Use a standard font (12‑pt Times New Roman or Arial), double‑spaced, 1‑inch margins, numbered pages. Put your name and working title in the header. If the sample isn’t the first chapter, add 2–4 sentences at the top to orient the reader (“where we are in the story/argument”). Upload your chapter as a single PDF or DOCX.
Exclusivity & timeline. We ask for an exclusive look while we consider your work (no simultaneous submissions). Our small team reviews carefully; typical response time is about 3–6 weeks. Please don’t phone or drop by; if six weeks pass without a reply, you may send a brief follow‑up by email. We can’t provide detailed editorial feedback on declined submissions.
Fit matters. Before submitting, please browse our list to ensure your project aligns with AP’s regional and category focus. If you live outside BC but your book is closely tied to BC, you’re still welcome to submit. Canadian authors (agented or unagented) may submit; one project at a time, please.
